Sept. 18, 2023
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality will hold a virtual meeting to provide updates to interested parties and community members on the Clean Truck Rules that were adopted in November 2021 and go into effect next year. Starting with the Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus Rule, manufacturers must comply with more stringent NOx and particulate matter engine emission standards. DEQ will provide background, describe future rule amendment plans to align with California’s recent proposal, and take questions about rule implementation.
The Oregon Clean Truck Rules included adoption of two California air quality rules by reference:
- The Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus Rule requires conventionally fueled heavy-duty vehicle and engine manufacturers to meet tougher NOx and particulate matter emission standards, overhaul engine testing procedures and further extend engine warranties to ensure NOx and PM emissions are reduced.
- The Advanced Clean Trucks Rule requires manufacturers of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles to sell a certain percentage of zero-emission vehicles in Oregon beginning with the 2025 vehicle model year.
The meeting is open to all members of the public.
